We Drift - Clean (2025)
“Clean” is the state you hope to be in when you come out of a conflict. For Roger, We Drift’s guitarist and singer, the song was born of a painful break-up, and of the life that opened up once that door had closed. “Heaven after hell”, as he puts it. The track confronts memories of the reproaches and slander of that period and works as genuine therapy: each slow, hypnotic performance reminds him that he made the right choice, and did the best he could.
The lyrics unfold in two parts. The first, sung in English, transcribes the very strange, yet also very “fun” and optimistic dreams that came with this serene way out. The second, in French, tells of a new love, met a year and a half later. Finally, Clean is also a message to his son, a teenager at the time, who went through difficult moments of his own and is doing much better today.
Musically, Roger wanted a “sweeter” chord progression than on the rest of the record. Cyril’s synthesizers bring a floating touch, echoing both the dreams he actually had and the dream in the figurative sense: the happy ending. Placed last on the tracklist, the song gives the album a positive exit, before its ending, in 5/4, shifts rhythmically into another world.
Released in late 2025 after a first EP, the six-track I Like turns this phrase, worn out by social media, into an act of resistance, an invitation to genuine appreciation. Finely produced by Frizman at Le Grenier studio, it blends ethereal guitars, dream pop vocals, Moog bass and fuzz-saturated climaxes, with a few duets alongside Lucie Folch. It is co-released by the labels Cœur Sur Toi (Marseille, vinyl and cassette) and No Need Name (Montpellier, CD).
About the band
We Drift drift between post-rock, dream pop and slowcore. Synthesizers and guitars wander through carefully crafted melodies, heavy or fuzzy riffs and haunting rhythms, serving double-edged lyrics that explore both the quintessence and the darkness of life, human relationships and power struggles. No showing off, just finesse and sonic power.
Now a trio, the band brings together Roger (guitar, vocals), formerly of Splain, Oliboy Skiboy and That Dove and Deepwater Horizon Explosion, steeped in post-rock, shoegaze and folk; Cyril (synthesizers), coming from krautrock and the electronic avant-garde, who adds ambient, noise and psychedelic layers; and Baptiste (drums), conservatory-trained, balancing finesse and rhythmic power. The band is preparing a video and a tour of Spain and the south of France.
