Untamed came to Ludivine Jalabert on an August evening, in the silent half-light of a night in the Landes. A clear-cut emotion, carried by the darkness and by a sudden longing for renewal, tinged with nostalgia. Like Horse before it, the song is about the search for freedom.

The vocal line, which holds the whole track together, bears the mark of 1980s goth and post-punk. Listening to it, you feel a constant swing between lightness, melancholy and determination. Written and composed by Ludivine Jalabert and arranged by Manu A., Untamed was recorded by Stéphane Miollan in Bordeaux.

The video, directed, shot and edited by Ludivine herself, takes us into a floating space-time, grainy and lo-fi, bathed in “Lynchian” lights. Flashes of urgency, fear and joy follow one another to the rhythm of pine trees rolling past the open window of a car: country dancers, friends, fleeting encounters, the kitsch and radiant beauty of the ocean. Nothing changes and everything keeps moving, ready to slip away, while we have to hold on and stay fiercely ourselves, untamed. Untamed. Lettering and artwork are hand-drawn by Atelier Dixneufcent (Emmanuel Ameil): the whole thing is guaranteed AI-free.

About the band

A western in the rain… Inspired by the cinematic landscapes of the Landes, the members of Tyrosse paint post-rock soundscapes, somewhere between noisy crashes and tender melancholy. Behind a gothic poetry carried by charismatic vocals in English, the band tells of inner torments and denounces the brutality of today’s world. Guided by the experimental approach of the 1980s post-punk and no-wave movements, Tyrosse aims to offer a complete artistic project, between visual arts and sonic journeys.

Its hybrid style, dubbed “gothic western” by one journalist, has led it to open for very different bands: Yobs (post-punk, UK), Orotoro (stoner), Duel (stoner, Texas), Basic Partner (post-punk) and This Will Destroy Your Ears (noise pop). The band is currently writing its album.
