Midnight Kiss - Insane Happy (2025)

Insane Happy, or crazy joy. Unless it’s joyful madness instead? Are we listening to the ramblings of an evening beauty intoxicated at twilight, or the predictions of a clairvoyant warning us against the madness that lurks due to the fear of others’ gaze?

Rym, the singer of Midnight Kiss , delivers this warning with her voice against false appearances, false escapes, false meanings, and unfortunately, false friends, with their paralyzing expectations. However, she warns us that taking her warnings literally would be equally deceptive: could she be joyfully mad? Have the birds turned against her to eat her brain?

Duality and uncertainty are explored, summoned, and above all celebrated. At no point is there any question of duplicity, as authenticity, in its painful sense, will be delivered: the voice dances and reproaches simultaneously.

Carried by Ben’s compositions and guitar arrangements, Rym’s lyrics unfold their procession of trompe-l'œil visions over a rhythmic foundation driven by an enchanting synthetic bass and a galloping percussive cadence provided by Faez. The spirits of R.E.M., Calexico, and P.J. Harvey are invoked to deliver to all of you the special rate of this astrological consultation. Special rate for all.

About Midnight Kiss...

Born from the initial meeting between Ben (guitarist/sound engineer/composer/synthetic bass programming) and Faez (drums/percussion/tape loops/field recordings), Midnight Kiss only truly takes shape with the arrival of Rym (vocals/composition) in November 2022.

The inspiration of this Parisian group is clear: to celebrate the night, in its romantic, initiatory, and epic dimensions. The cinematography evoked by Rym’s lyrics pays fleeting homage to Lynch and Buñuel, describing scenes of forbidden romances in trompe-l'œil, magical collisions between lonely and alienated souls that feverishly fuse in hotel rooms before vanishing at dawn, and sincere but ephemeral promises that progressively dissolve under the growing light of a dazzling sunrise.

PJ Harvey, Calexico, Patrick Watson—these are some of the sonic influences that may evoke the soundtrack this group is constantly trying to compose.

Let yourself be seduced by this crimson kiss starting at the blue hour: you’ll end up going to bed every day just as Paris awakens.
