Karaboudjan - Éco anxiété yeah yeah yeah (2026)

A year after La Pirogue, Karaboudjan are back in our pages, and the landscape has changed. Gone are the Californian Summer of Love and the peace pipe: “You will dance on the scorched earth to turn the tide.” Éco anxiété yeah yeah yeah (“Eco-anxiety yeah yeah yeah”) is a garage surf yé-yé song on a theme that could hardly be more topical. The grasshopper sang all summer long, but after a sweltering, apocalyptic summer, La Fontaine’s fable doesn’t say clearly how to eat the ultra-rich.

Between a yé-yé chorus and eco-anxious lyrics, the band moves through a naive, blind and deaf tableau, on the sand and smouldering embers of destructive capitalism. Facing a nature that is beautiful, bigger than us, almost alive, Karaboudjan summon the sixties ghosts of carefree days. On the other side, a rather solarpunk future takes shape, seen through the eyes of a child looking back at this past in bewilderment, through a virtual reality headset turned technological relic. Because for Rafi, “the only artificial intelligence is the human one, but we’ll remember bubble-gum, rock’n’roll and koalas”.

Released on 17 September 2026 and taken from the EP Garage Punk, the second part of the concept double EP that began with Garage Love (December 2025), the song will get a video on 5 November. It was shot in the great outdoors, in the heart of the Hottée du Diable nature park in the Aisne, where Camille and Paul Claudel endlessly drew their inspiration among animal-shaped rocks.

About the band

Somewhere in the hold of an old cargo ship with an Armenian name, tons of crabs, opium and mojo risin’: Karaboudjan cast off in May 2021 in the south of the Aisne and Marne, in north-eastern France, as a duo. Rafi drags his battered guitar through old valve amps, straying east to the sound of his saz, the Turkish lute, while Phil’s drums and darbuka resound amid analogue bass lines and vintage synths. The lyrics, in French, blend poetry, protest songs and wordplay with sixties harmonies and heavy reverb.

The duo has become a quartet: Raphaël “Rafi” Mammar (vocals, guitars, saz), Philippe “Phil” Rak (drums, backing vocals, machines), Étienne “John McLovepine” Pintelon (bass) and Orso Giovancarli (second drum kit). From the Black Keys to the Doors, from Gainsbourg to Burgalat, they play loud and without frills: “four chords is already too many”. After the EP La Lagune (2022) and Garage Love, then the singles Dernier cri, Mitroglou and Garage Punk in 2026, Karaboudjan have played nearly a hundred shows all over France: supporting Burning Heads, Deportivo, Eiffel and Sanseverino, at the Fête de l’Humanité, the Cantons Chante festival, the Supersonic in Paris…
