Devah - Spitfire (2025)
"Spitfire" is a British racing car and a fighter plane used during World War II. It’s also the incendiary title of DEVAH’s track, an enigmatic piece with coldwave, industrial, and postpunk influences.
It tells the story of bitter anger and disillusionment in the face of the nonchalance of an anti-hero lover—addicted and a collector.
The track opens with subaquatic sirens, then, carried by syncopated drums and a sultry voice, convulses to explode into an orgiastic fire of mystical and vengeful litanies.
The lyrics are sarcastic and biting, the harmonies ethereal, and the guitar/bass textures saturated and distorted.
Like Lee Anderson, Devah will go to the grave of their enemy, lover—not to spit, but to set it ablaze.
Viva Glam! Viva Devah!
Devah is the neoglam-trap/garage project of singer-songwriter Cécile Quiltu. A singer, author, and guitarist, Cécile created Devah in 2022. Derived from the Sanskrit word for "divinity," Devah celebrates light, darkness, and self-empowerment.
Drawing inspiration from the glam rock of the '70s, the raw power of the Stooges, punk, and industrial sounds à la Nine Inch Nails or The Collective, Devah sets the stage ablaze with an explosion of joy, fury, and hedonistic rage.
Imagine the unlikely offspring of Nina Hagen, Hunter S. Thompson, and David Bowie.
The energy is solar and hypnotic; the aesthetic pays homage to British glam at its peak: silver boots, Marvel-inspired makeup, and sequins galore.
A designer for haute-couture and opera in Paris, Cécile works as a DJ by night under the pseudonym Blondoxx and sings in nightclubs. Drawn to other horizons, she moved to Hollywood, where her love affair with California and the USA began.
Fascinated by outcasts, "conmen," showgirls, and American folklore, her writing and music are imbued with a mix of rage, melancholy, and lust for life, all expressed in an unapologetic and raw English.
Atypical, Devah delivers volcanic energy on stage and creates a unique connection with her audience. She has been performing in Parisian venues for over a year. In November 2024, she opened for US glam rock leader Gyasi (Nashville) at Petit Bain (UTURN), and in March 2025, for Black Viiolet (Nicole of The Darts, Seattle) during her release party (Adrenalinfixmusic). She will play on June 7 at Nouveaux Sauvages in Montreuil and in tribute to Nine Inch Nails at Supersonic on June 15.
Currently working on an EP, Devah is planning a tour across Europe and the US.
