Daydreams of a Mad King - The Party (2026)

Born from a riff by Oliv, composed by the trio and written by Kev, The Party follows a man without morals who seizes a moment of weakness to slip through the breach. He forces his way into another man’s home to take his wife, and with her his family and his ideals, before the husband’s eyes. By morning he leaves everything in ruins and walks off, without a backward glance, towards the next house, where someone has also left the door open. “You let the king in when you forgot to lock the door.”

Beyond adultery, the band denounces the loss of respect in human relationships: those who take what they want, without qualms or regard for others. In this parable everyone plays a part, from the husband who thought himself safe to the wife who lets herself get carried away, and the lover, a vulture biding his time. But for DMK, the real culprits remain those who allow themselves to betray, out of cowardice or selfishness, and break up families that could have weathered the storm.

Musically, a heavy, driving riff carries the song, the soundtrack to a destruction both violent and festive. The solo marks the turning point: emboldened by what he has just destroyed, the aggressor keeps striking his fallen victim, believes himself the chosen one and blames the man who should simply have been more careful. The song gives him the floor and lets him brag “to the point of disgust: the more he struts, the more we despise him.” No moral, no final punishment: “in real life, those who break up a home often walk away unscathed and start again elsewhere.” A cry of anger, 5 minutes 38 long, following the first single Day in Hell ahead of a nine-track debut album.

About the band

A Bordeaux trio on stage since 2023, Daydreams of a Mad King (DMK) brings together Kev (vocals, guitar), Oliv’ (guitar) and Yann (drums). The band blends alternative rock and metal with touches of blues, funk, industrial and prog, exploring the dark tales of the “mad king” through shifting moods and songs that build in tension. Two guitars, drums, a heavy sound and a singular voice: DMK see themselves as born to play live, as a full electric set, an unplugged show or acoustic covers, and have played Le Steady, Le Salem, L’Antidote, Le Dropkick and the Izon fait du Bruit festival. Upcoming dates: 26 November at Le Steady in Saint-Loubès with RAKKAM, and 12 December at Little O’Clock in Toulouse with Madchamb. Production: PYKO PROD.
