Bloody Claps - Hard Way (2024)
Hard Way was born during an evening spent with a friend who has sadly since passed away. She told Lood, Bloody Claps’ singer and guitarist, about the stress she felt walking home under the lecherous male stares she could no longer bear. The conversation caused some tension between them: they didn’t agree on everything, and he felt her frustration sometimes fuelled aggressiveness and a somewhat extreme discourse.
From that conversation, the duo drew the song that opens their debut EP. Hard Way expresses the refusal to be seen as prey, in a constantly changing society that should protect us, yet sometimes pushes us, by sheer reflex, towards clumsy and extreme conclusions. The band’s observation is unvarnished: human beings still find it very hard to get along and to understand each other. “Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise?” The song is dedicated to Marie.
Musically, Hard Way sets the tone for what the duo calls “a return to the gut”: the power of stoner rock, the tension of garage rock and the unashamed vulnerability of a singer who has been through a lot, somewhere between Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death From Above and Royal Blood. Released in June 2024, the Hard Way EP features five tracks: Hard Way, Plus loin, Retire, Underground and Hometown.
About the band
Based in Paris, Bloody Claps is a stoner rock duo played by two musicians but sounding like four. The band was born from a simple command, after twenty years on the road, in bars and in sometimes short-lived projects: “Stop beating around the bush. Be who you are.” Lood, singer, guitarist, songwriter, composer and arranger, has worked with Manu Lanvin, the band Nord and Craig Walker of Archive. Jesse, drummer, composer, arranger and singer, started playing drums before he could even walk.
United by the same passion for live music, they have played more than 80 shows across France over the past two years. For 2026 and 2027, the duo is preparing a new studio recording, with concerts, festivals and support slots in their sights. Far from sanitised productions, Bloody Claps stand for rock that is “alive, dirty, powerful”: music that doesn’t cheat.
