L’Abordage, THÉRÉBÈNE’s wild and poetic French rock

THÉRÉBÈNE - L’Abordage (2026)

THÉRÉBÈNE records in batches of six songs. After a self-titled debut album in 2025, L’Abordage once again draws on an ever-growing repertoire. Self-produced, the record extends a universe where each song is a territory of its own, between visceral, grooving rock and French lyrics tinged with philosophy and literature. A first for Steph, who had always written in English until then, “the language of rock par excellence”.

Nanook and Fensch Girl, roots and factories

The album opens with Nanook, a punchy rock track telling the story of a young Inuk stuck in the city, looking for his place and his roots, guided by his bear totem. It draws on several stories, such as Simonetta Greggio’s L’Ourse qui danse and Nastassja Martin’s In the Eye of the Wild. The scene shifts with Fensch Girl, which conjures up, in both its sound and its lyrics, the factory and blast furnaces of the Fensch valley as experienced by a woman, based on Catherine Ecole-Boivin’s book La Métallo.

L’Accès and Si mal, the dark side

Dark and hypnotic, L’Accès gradually builds in power to explore how we do, or do not, become complicit with parasitic poisons, those “spiders” we let inside us. Driven by the bass, Si mal stretches out through the twists and turns of a loved one’s depression.

Peine perdue and L’Incongru, from rage to tenderness

With its unleashed solo, Peine perdue pulls the listener into an intimate reflection on the feeling of helplessness. The record closes with L’Incongru, gentle and heartbreaking: a young disabled man addressing his religious mother. A restrained ending for an album that holds nothing back, confirming the band’s dual nature, between power and poetry.

About the band

Formed in February 2024 in the Allier, the historic land of the Bourbons, THÉRÉBÈNE brings together four road-hardened musicians: Steph and her unhinged vocals, Charly and his tribal rhythms (both formerly of Lady Fuel, with whom they toured England), Éric and his hypnotic bass (ex-Baraque 8) and Pierre with his languid or cheeky guitars (ex-Bad Reputation). Their name, an invented word with a raw ring to it, fuses the essence of turpentine (térébenthine) and the density of ebony (ébène): black, abrasive rock, both deep and intense.

There are no rules: a song can grow out of a bass riff from Éric that Charly colours in, an idea from Pierre, a few notes Steph recorded on her old keyboard, or a jam with everyone. The lyrics, about life, insurrection, the need to reconnect with the land and human folly, are also illustrated in a booklet available at shows. With more than twenty songs already, twelve of them recorded at Burning Wood Studio, and a slot at Le Printemps de Bourges 2026, the band plans to head back into the studio in early 2027.
