The Ramellers - Chromasonic (2024)
The record was born, the band says, from a need for rebirth: to redefine the sound and energy they wanted to project, on record as on stage, and to show a more energetic, more powerful side without sacrificing their sense of melody. The trigger came in late 2023, over a series of gigs. To freshen up the set, the trio dug out six songs that had been sitting in a drawer, phone recordings and rehearsal improvisations. “We instantly realised that was the path the band needed to follow,” they explain, and the best way to make that change public was to record an album.
The sessions took place in June 2024 at Wheel Sound, a renowned studio on Barcelona’s underground scene, with No Way Out guitarist Txosse Ruiz at the helm. Out of twelve songs, the band kept eight, the ones that best captured this change of course: First Slip, Good Times, Last Chance, Love Muscle, Secret, Namaste, No Fear and Why, for just under half an hour. The title speaks of this sonic “chromatism”, this change of tone, while the cover takes the trio back to its roots: the sign of the Barcelona street that gave the band its name, renamed in marker as “Carrer The Ramellers”.
Released on 17 October 2024, Chromasonic was always meant to have a live counterpart. That has recently come true with the Ramellers Live Sessions, which the band presents as a faithful reflection of what it can do on stage and of the album’s potential.
About the band
Formed in Barcelona around Fede Morrison (guitar, vocals), Rubén Carrillo (bass, vocals) and Dani Valdez (drums), The Ramellers describe themselves as a power trio reviving the Seattle sound, pairing it with melodies and structures inspired by the classic pop of the Beatles, in a sound that ranges from furious to melodic. Winners of second prize for best national band at the Villa de Laredo 2022 competition, they deliver a meticulous, energetic live show, conceived as an adrenaline-fuelled rollercoaster interwoven with catchy pop melodies. After Lotus (2021), Whirlpool (2022) and Lullabies (2023), Chromasonic is their fourth release; the band’s website already announces a new EP, Tape B.
