On the way to an uncertain future, pilotinthepicture provides the soundtrack. While We Escape delves into the stories of those who flee, for all kinds of reasons, and asks questions that others have long since stopped listening to. Wolfram Zarnack owes this critical view of the world to his background: he comes from the punk/hardcore scene and has always played in bands of that genre, while never hiding his fondness for 1970s progressive rock.

The album was built piece by piece during the pandemic. As a drummer, Wolfram Zarnack always starts from the rhythm: “I try to make interesting beats, cut out the best stuff, and build the songs around it.” Hence the signature shared by all eight tracks: a slow start, quiet verses that open into powerful choruses, where guest singer Josefine Winter’s clear voice unfolds.

From Intro to 1962, by way of Take Me Up, Hazy World, the single Run, Escapegoat, Their Song and the ten-plus minutes of REV2, the songs travel through such varied worlds that the record is hard to pigeonhole. Its author feels “post-progressive rock” is the closest fit. And While We Escape shows how quickly forty minutes can pass when you really take your time: an intense, introspective journey for all those searching for their next destination.

Wolfram Zarnack plays every instrument. Mixing and mastering are by Siegmard Pohl (Dying Lizard Studios), the cover art by Matthias Stork. The album has been available since 23 October 2026 on CD digipak and streaming platforms via Bitume Prods, and the video for Run offers a first taste.
