The debut album from BASIL, INFRARED is above all the culmination of years of songwriting, gigs and collective work. Fully self-produced and driven by the band, the record gathers eleven tracks shaped over time, on stage and in rehearsal, before taking their final form in the studio. It showcases the many sides of the six-piece: Britpop melodies, rock tension, atmospheric textures and more energetic passages, in a whole that captures both their musical identity and the energy they have built on stage.

Lost Control, from the fall to strength

The album opens with Lost Control, which tells of the aftermath of a break-up: the moment when everything wavers, when you sink after losing someone who loved you, yet still try not to lose your footing. The song is about that inner struggle between pain, doubt and the will to keep believing in something: in yourself, in love, in the possibility of moving forward despite the fall.

Musically, the tension builds gradually. The track starts slowly, in a heavy and very melodic mood with almost electronic textures. Guitars and bass creep in little by little, until the song tips over into a far more intense and resolutely rock second half. A rise that mirrors the character’s journey: starting from chaos, going through loss, then finding enough strength to stand up again. Direct, edgy and melodic, Lost Control (watch the video) opens the door onto the most immediate side of the record.

Eleven tracks, several lives

Several songs on INFRARED have already had a first life on stage or on video, such as My O My, a rich, textured and airy track where the atmosphere gradually lets the energy rise, or Infrared Suspense, an intense and tense side of the band’s world, already road-tested live. The album brings them together with new songs: Lost Control, Diny, Greenland, Losing, Shadows, Hypnotic, Feel The Noise, My O My, All Of You, Infrared Suspense, Morning Light. INFRARED is available on streaming platforms and on CD, and the band will play it on 21 November at L’Acoustic Bar in Montauban.

About the band

BASIL is an indie rock band from Toulouse formed in 2013. Between a Britpop legacy, 60s/70s rock and more atmospheric textures, they claim a range of influences stretching from The Beatles to Blur, via Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Around the singular voice of English singer Lorna, Nicolas, Vivien, Olivier, Marc and Michaël craft a world that is at once melodic, energetic and atmospheric.

Since 2015, BASIL have racked up stage experience: gigs, festivals, live sessions, radio studios and acoustic sessions. Winners of the 2024 Live Challenge, the band also played the first edition of Le Survolté festival. After several years of self-production, INFRARED marks a new chapter for these six musicians and their songs built to grow on stage.
