Bakelit - Wake Up Terrified (2026)
Recorded during the winter and spring of 2026, Wake Up Terrified features the same line-up as No Fear of Drowning, the album on which drummer Jonas Källsbäck (The Night Flight Orchestra, Gathering Of Kings) joined the band. Carl Westholm describes it this way: “The new album is perhaps not as dark as its predecessor, but still deeply penetrates the different aspects of the human mind, emotions and behavior – for good and for bad… It still has one foot in progressive art rock and the other in electronic music. The ambition is clear, to build up a tension between different moods and ambient landscapes, from the first to the last track.”
Eight tracks, 45 minutes. In a Crash, the first single released on 23 October, dwells in the split second before impact, a millisecond you would like to stretch into hours or weeks, long enough to glimpse a perfect parallel world before the dust settles. The Alien, the next single due on 6 November, follows a narrator who wakes up “on the wrong planet”, now immune to common needs and desires. The record then moves through Death and Love, the seven-plus minutes of Bug Out Location and Their Brains Died in 1980, before closing with All Heroes Go to Hell.
Composed and written by Carl Westholm, the album was recorded, produced and mixed at his Studio FOSFOR, except for the drums recorded at Studio GrooveArbetaren, and mastered by Hoffe Stannow at Cosmos Mastering. The artwork is by Pål Olofsson (Dakota). The line-up features Öivin Tronstad and Cia Backman on vocals, Carl Westholm on vocals, bass, electric piano, organ, synthesizers, Flux and programming, Ulf Edelönn on guitars and Jonas Källsbäck on drums. Out digitally on 27 November 2026 on FOSFOR Creation.
About the band
Founded in 2023 by Carl Westholm, known for his work with Carptree, Jupiter Society and Abstrakt Algebra, for his part in the original line-ups of doom metal bands Avatarium and Krux and for his regular contributions to Candlemass, Bakelit grew out of a large stock of previously written songs that came to life through experiments with electronic hardware. The unpredictable nature of those machines shaped music that sits between strictly electronic and progressive rock. Westholm brought together collaborators from his previous projects. The debut album, Asleep or Insane, came out in November 2024, preceded by the single The Coolest Place on Earth, followed as early as September 2025 by No Fear of Drowning, featuring songs such as From the Underground and Moment of Peace. Both records were praised for their dark electronic accents, eerie synths, theatrical moods and dual male/female vocal harmonies; Prog Magazine called No Fear of Drowning “fascinatingly foreboding, contemplative and ambitious”.
