Alcantara - In Concert (2026)
One year after Tamam Shud, Alcantara return with In Concert, a live album that takes this material back to where it breathes best: the stage. The record was made at the Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee in Catania, the venue where the band had premiered Tamam Shud in June 2025. All six songs from the album are played in order, from TerryG to Wodwo/Vertigo, by way of Il Distacco, Distant Star, the title track and Sail.
The second half goes back to Solitaire, the band’s debut, and to older songs: Treefingers, Logan, After the Flood and, to close, the ten minutes of Seasons. Three guitars, a voice that moves between Italian and English, and a few guests on some tracks, Alessandro Caltabiano on keyboards and Caterina Coco on violin: everything these long-form pieces need to take on their full scale on stage.
As a reminder, Tamam Shud draws on the mystery of the Somerton Man, found dead on a beach in Adelaide in 1948 with a scrap of paper bearing the Persian words “Tamam Shud”, “it is finished”. Released on 6 June 2025, recorded at Mojopin studio in Catania and produced by guitarist Francesco Venti, it was the band’s first album sung in both Italian and English. In Concert came out on 19 June 2026 on Oskar Records.
About the band
Hailing from Catania, Alcantara describe themselves as a “Mediterranean space rock” band: experimental progressive rock blending space rock, psychedelia, dark blues and cinematic post-rock landscapes, for those who love the visionary side of Pink Floyd and the dreamlike experiments of Radiohead. Its members, who came from an earlier band, got back together in 2018, and the demos they wrote at the time became their first album. The name comes from the Alcantara river and gorges in Sicily, from the Arabic al-qantara, “the bridge”: an image the band likes, since for them music is a great bridge between people.
Released in April 2019, Solitaire is a concept album sung in English about the meaning of resistance in “liquid” times, strongly marked by Pink Floyd’s The Wall. It then took six years of maturing to arrive at Tamam Shud, which marked a more modern turn. Around singer and lyricist Sergio Manfredi Sallicano are Francesco Venti on lead guitar, Vittorio Distefano on acoustic and slide guitar, Salvo Di Mauro on rhythm guitar and Rosario Figura on drums.
